Therapeutic Effects of Rosemary Leaf Extract on Liver and Kidney Parameters of Rats Treated with Cypermethrin

Marius K. Somda.

Abstract
The goal of this study was to show the therapeutic effects of rosemary leaf extract on the liver and kidney parameters of rats treated with cypermethrin. For this experiment, we used a rosemary leaf extract and randomly assigned 40 male rats (ranging in weight from 180 to 220 grams) to one of four groups, with 10 rats in each. G1 served as a control and received just 1 milliliter (ml) of maize oil orally by gavage. Group 2: Subjected to daily dosing with CYP (66.5 % of body weight) in maize oil. G3 was given a combination of 100 mg/kg b.w. of rosemary extract and 66.5 mg/kg b.w. of CYP dissolved in maize oil as a treatment.G4: Subjected to a treatment consisting of 200 mg/kg b.w. of rosemary extract and 66.5 mg/kg b.w. of CYP dissolved in maize oil. Orally administrated the suspended solution to the specified groups of animals for 6 weeks. Three milliliters of blood were obtained from the hearts of all control and treated groups punctured after (24 hrs) the last dose of treatments. After letting the samples coagulate, the serum was extracted by spinning them at 3000 rpm for ten minutes. The sera were then kept at -20 ºC until they were needed for enzyme assays or analysis. These parameters of biochemical include AST, ALT, ALP, urea, and creatinine. The results showed that the level of AST, ALT, ALP, Urea, and creatinine in rats treated with cypermethrin provided a significant increase as compared with control groups. In all liver and kidney parameters, co-feeding rats rosemary extract improved blood enzyme levels of liver and kidney considerably in G3 and G4 compared to G2. In conclusion, the findings of this research indicate that male rats' liver and kidney functions are biochemically altered due to Cypermethrin poisoning and that the parameters we studied were ameliorated after administering Rosemary.

Key words: Cypermethrin, Liver, Kidney and Rosemary
